The ballets I like are about a girl with some kind of post-human problem. There’s Giselle, Coppelia, & so many others. The heroines tip-toe around with dirt on their faces to rid themselves & each other of elusive, intergenerational curses.
Something about this resonates.
Giselle tells the story of a peasant who falls for a nobleman, then goes mad & dies of heartbreak. She is summoned from her grave by the Wilis, ghosts of betrayed young maidens who dance men to death. They grow in numbers, creating an ethereal, overwhelming atmosphere.
